Who is Silk Mama?
Karen Reynolds, aka Silk Mama, is an honest to goodness “Eight Is Enough” mom who loves silk flowers and has been creating beautiful arrangements for thirty years. Her home is filled with silk flower arrangements, which is why she couldn’t help notice how dusty they got simply sitting there being lovely, and also why she decided to do something about it.
Karen “Silk Mama” Reynolds has never been a pearl-wearing, stay-at-home, sixties sitcom, sort of housewife; you know, the kind with hours of silk flower, feather-dusting time at her disposal. Being the mother of eight, all boys by the way, four sons and four stepsons, and working 30 years as a professional computer programmer for a major insurance company, she was far too busy. But out of her desire to keep her silk flower arrangements clean and beautiful, she came up with some efficient tips and tricks; and she wants to share them with you.
What Can You Do With A Bag Of Rice?
So what else can you do with a bag of rice besides cook it and cover it with chicken, cheese and veggies? If you were Karen “Silk Mama” Reynolds you would know to toss some of that rice (uncooked of course) into a brown paper bag, add a few pieces of artificial fruit and shake it up. Gently.
No, that isn’t her idea for the latest trend in gourmet cuisine. Rice in a brown paper bag is one of the tricks for cleaning artificial flower arrangements you will find in the Karen Reynolds’s book “Silk Mama’s 15 Tips and Tricks for Cleaning Silk Plants.”
Silk Mama wants you to clean your silk flower arrangements; but if she could visit your home, she would assure you, dirty silk flowers are nothing to be ashamed of. The most avid white glove aficionado most certainly recognizes the work necessary to clean individual leaves and stems and blossoms. Even your mother-in-law understands that cleaning those pretty artificial lemons and apples sitting in a crystal bowl on your dining room table would mean expending far too much energy in your already busy day. That’s why she wrote her book.
Silk Mama on a Mission-
Karen Reynolds is pretty busy herself. When she’s not taking care of her eight children or working as a computer programmer or cooking or cleaning or doing laundry or hosting get-togethers with former heavyweight champions and woman inventors and writers and videographers, she is Silk Mama, toiling diligently in her basement workshop.
As Silk Mama her mission is to create striking, silk flower arrangements for weddings and special occasions, as well as unique Irish-themed centerpieces. She is already quite busy, still it is her mission to beautify the world.
Part two of Silk Mama’s mission is to encourage those of you with dirty silk flower arrangements to step forward so she can help you. For Columbus, Ohio area residents she will come to you with a personal presentation of tips and tricks for renewing the beauty of your silk flower arrangements. For everyone else, Silk Mama offers her book, “Silk Mama’s 15 Tips And Tricks For Cleaning Silk Plants.”
