Many foreigners, including Americans, are fond of visiting the hill station of Mount Abu, which is situated in the State of Rajasthan in India. This is due to the fact that Mount Abu is full of varieties of site seeing spots all around. If you do not plan your site seeing trips in a very systematic way here at Mount Abu, there are chances that you may miss some vital places through oversight. I have visited Mount Abu many times in my life and hence, am fully familiar with the procedure to be followed for site seeing at Mount Abu. I am going to cover this aspect of site seeing at Mount Abu in an optimal way, both from cost as well as based on importance of the places.
There are mainly three ways to carry out site seeing activities at Mount Abu. The first and most popular way is to hire a car or taxi or jeep for the full day. One full day can be sufficient to cover almost all the site seeing places of Mount Abu. The rates for such hired car or taxi for one full day are around Rs.1500 ($30). Such vehicle can accommodate four to five people. If you are in a larger group, you may hire large van that can accommodate around eight to ten people. Such vans are available at the rate of Rs.2000 ($40) per day, covering all the vital site seeing spots in one full day. The second option is to travel by luxury buses that charge around Rs.100 ($2.0) per person for the full day trip of site seeing. Such buses are quite comfortable and some of them are even air conditioned. Such buses provide free hotel pick up for you from the hotel in which you are staying. The trip starts at around 9.30 am and ends at around 7 pm after sunset. The lunch break of around one hour is provided by such coaches at around 1.0 pm in the afternoon. The most common site seeing route starts from Nakhi Lake, and covers Shankar Math. Om Shanti Bhavan, Arbuda Devi temple, Brahma Kumari museum, Achal garh, Gurushikhar, Jain Delwara temples, Honeymoon point, Peace Park, and finally the sunset point. The lunch break of one hour is given at the Jain Delwara temples. The luxury coaches reach the final destination of sunset point at around 6.0 pm. The tourists sit at this point to enjoy the beautiful sunset of the Arvalli Mountains range. The luxury coach finally drops all the passengers at Nakhi Lake at around 7 pm after the sunset. This option of site seeing is economical but little tiring as there are at least three to four site seeing places that involves steep climbs and long walks. It would be better to take up the site seeing in two half day trips if you have enough time. The half day tours are also available for the tourists at around half the rates of the full day trip. The third and final option is to cover the entire site seeing spots by Rajasthan State Transport buses, operated by the State Government of Rajasthan. This is the most economical option having the rates of around Rs.60 ($1.2) per head. Though, the condition of buses and the bus seats are not at all comfortable in these buses. If you have enough financial resources, then, the first option of hiring car or taxi or jeep would be most preferred as it offers the freedom of travel to the tourists. The tourists can spend more time at their selected spots in case they desire in this option.
There are lots of variations in the rates of the site seeing at Mount Abu and hence, it is suggested to carry out proper market survey amongst the various travel agencies prior to the final reservation. It is also suggested to take confirmed seat number at the time of reservation only. It is also suggested to confirm with the travel agencies the site seeing places that will be covered in the trip and about the free pick up from your hotel. There are some odd places like Vashistha Ashram (Gaumukh), which is not covered by any travel services in their standard route. Such places may be covered separately through hired cabs. Looking to covering such odd places also during your trip, it would be essential to stay for around three days at Mount Abu.
