Sometimes you just want to relax and listen to good music. When you are trying to unwind, or recover from a stressful day or situation, listening to relaxing music can relieve tension and improve your mood. Here are ten of my favorite songs for relaxing.
“Details in the Fabric” by Jason Mraz – When you are stressed out and need to put things into perspective, it doesn’t get much better than “Details in the Fabric” by Jason Mraz. In a soothing, soft manner, Mraz instructs you to “calm down” and take “deep breaths.” Then, the song continues beautifully and climaxes with the chorus, “Hold your own, know your name, and go your own way.” This is truly a beautiful, relaxing, and inspirational song.
“High” by James Blunt – James Blunt’s album, Back to Bedlam, is a wonderful album to relax to from start to finish. “High” is one of several particularly beautiful songs on the album. With soothing music and Blunt’s angelic voice, “High” is a song that is easy to lay back and relax to.
“Losing Keys” by Jack Johnson – On a day when you just feel like simplifying your life and getting back to the basics, “Losing Keys” by Jack Johnson is the song for you. Everything about Jack Johnson’s style oozes relaxation and living the simple life. As Johnson sings, “I’ve been losing lots of keys lately, I don’t know what that means, but maybe I’d be better off with things that can’t be locked at all,” you may find yourself getting lost in his soothing voice and letting your cares melt away.
“Us and Them” by Pink Floyd – If you really get into the lyrics, “Us and Them” might seem like an odd choice for a relaxing song. While it seems to have some violent themes if you read the lyrics, listening to them in Pink Floyd’s typical ethereal style will certainly be relaxing to you.
“Little Motel” by Modest Mouse – Modest Mouse has something to suit your every mood. While I’m particularly fond of the album Good News For People Who Love Bad News, “Little Motel” has made it’s way to my playlist as a wonderful song for relaxing and thinking.
“The Blower’s Daughter” by Damien Rice – What a beautiful song. “The Blower’s Daughter” has it all. The music is beautiful and classic, the lyrics are thought-provoking, and Rice sings with a sincerity that could bring you to tears. Turn this one up and relax.
“Vincent (Starry Starry Night)” by Don McLean – Don McLean wrote this song about Vincent Van Gogh. The song is as beautiful and thoughtful as Van Gogh’s work.
“100 Years” by Five For Fighting – When you want to relax and reflect on your life, “100 years” by Five For Fighting is the perfect song. As the song takes you through various ages and stages of life, you can’t help but think about where you have been and where you are going.
“Live High” by Jason Mraz – Another Jason Mraz song that I enjoy relaxing to is “Live High.” This song is good for reminding you to keep life simple and avoid trying to constantly find reasons for things. Just “live high, live mighty, live righteously.”
“Imagine” by John Lennon – “Imagine” is the classic “relaxing and dreaming of a utopian world” song. No matter how many times I hear this one, it always relaxes me and encourages me to dream.
