Menopause can cause a variety of symptoms. Women may be concerned about the symptoms of menopause because they don’t know what they should expect. Many of the symptoms of menopause are uncomfortable. Here, I have listed some of the symptoms of menopause.
Women going through menopause will experience hot flashes, which are waves of heat that occur even in cold weather that will make you very warm. During menopause it is wise to wear layers, like a tank top underneath a sweater if it is the winter, to avoid getting stuck in a sweater during a hot flash. Exercising is also known to reduce the frequency and severity of hot flashes. Exercise on a daily basis getting your cardio and strength training to reduce hot flashes.
Menopause can cause a thickening around the belly. Because of this, it is also wise to exercise and change your diet. A large amount of belly fat is not good for the health, and it will increase during menopause. Get your cardio and strength workouts to keep belly fat at bay, and remember to eat a healthy diet low in saturated fats. Drink plenty of water and increase your fiber intake.
Your risk of osteoporosis increases during menopause. To get a sufficient amount of calcium to make up for any calcium depletion, you may want to increase the calcium intake in your diet. Eat a lot of calcium in foods such as low fat yogurt, low fat cheese, skim milk, and low fat frozen yogurt. If you are allergic to dairy or you are not getting enough calcium despite the amount that you eat, you can take a calcium supplement, or drink calcium enriched orange juice. Other foods that are high in calcium and good for preventing osteoporosis are foods such as leafy green veggies like spinach, and fish like salmon. These foods are also known to support weight loss which can combat the belly fat and weight gain associated with menopause.
Some other symptoms of menopause include feeling depressed, sleepless, and an imbalance in your moods and emotions. A good way to combat these feelings are to work out and exercise, which will combat the sleepless feelings or lack of sleep you may be getting. Enough exercise will make you sleepy at the end of the day and help you to sleep during the night because it tires out your body. To help the imbalanced emotions and moods due to shifting amounts of hormones, try yoga. Yoga will help to strengthen and tone your body, as well as help you find your center.
Another symptom of menopause is fluctuations in your period. Because your menstruation cycles are stopping, your periods will become irregular. You may experience periods at strange times, they may be very light, or very heavy and can continue for only a few days
