The premise or basis for this show is as follows. This is a show about Crab fishing off the Alaskan coast in the icy Bering Sea and it is considered one of the world’s most dangerous jobs and most lucrative jobs. The elements the crews face include forty-foot waves, freezing temperatures, and practically a 100% injury rate. The show follows ships of men as they compete for the prize of the undersea animals that will make them rich.

A Tragic Beginning
In this episode you see just how much the lure of the money and the adventure calls to people. There are 81 vessels ready to sail and claim their riches.
An Unforgiving Sea
This episode shows the harsh realities of nature that are encountered on the seas. A vessel named the Ocean Challenger sinks and there is only one known survivor who is rescued by the Coast Guard. There are also two other bodies pulled from the water and one man lost at sea.
Pain and Paybacks
This episode shows more of the danger that is experienced daily. There are more injuries caused by the Bering Sea. Deckhand Lenny Lankahoff who works on the Wizard crew has a crippling injury.
This episode shows how the working environment of the crews. The crews are now working through the night. Some equipment is failing. Working through the night causes fatigue and this in combination with equipment failure and bad weather lead to even more danger and close calls.
Bering Sea Salvation
This episode is a tale of the Bering Sea through Captain Johnathan Hillstrand. He tells the time that he made an attempt to rescue a fallen comrade and it ended in tragedy.
This is the start of the Opilio crab season. There are several greenhorns that are about to live through their first subfreezing temperature and icy water experience.
Trials of the Greenhorns
Harsh winter weather tests the Greenhorns. The Northwestern and Cornelia Marie greenhorns work through pain, broken bones, and icy decks without complaint to prove their value.
Ice and Open Water
This episode shows the good and the bad at once. The Far West leader is trying to survive the elements after losing an engine. At the same time though the Time Bandit is enjoying unseasonable weather and amazing catches.
A Frozen Finish
The 2007 Opillio crab tally is in and a winner is named. The Northwestern has won and is welcomed back with open arms to their family.
