Since Larry King may indeed live forever, it only makes sense that he would have the hottest teen pop group of this generation, the Jonas Brothers, star on ‘Larry King Live’ Thursday night. Either that, or the Jonas Brothers, who will be hosting the Teen Choice Awards, are starting to lose a little steam.
Like many boy bands before them, the Jonas Brothers’ fan base is starting to grow up and become more interested in the Katy Perry’s and Lady GaGa’s of the music world. As girls get older, they tend to take more of an interest in the boys that are actually around them and look for female stars to idolize and dream of being like (I just hope teen girls don’t start trying to dress like Katy Perry and Lady GaGa; if you thought 80’s fashion was bad, imagine a generation of girls into cheap pinup fashion mixed with foodstuff and who believe that pants are obsolete, but fake plastic bubbles and geisha-like lipstick are all the rage). These teens growing up is still fortunate for one of the celebrities that will likely be very busy accepting awards and taking part in the festivities on Teen Choice Awards night, Miley Cyrus, who can now grow up and evolve into a different pop star.
But even Hannah Montana will be coming to an end next year, much to the relief of many mothers I know who believe that Miley Cyrus is a horrible role model for girls. But with the end of Hannah Montana comes a Disney-free Miley Cyrus, and I have two words for these mothers who believe their daughters will lose interest in Miley Cyrus once her Disney pop days are over: Britney Spears.
So are Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus back together? How great is the duet the two of them recorded? And do teens even care anymore? Well, with shows like ‘Gossip Girl’ and movies like ‘Twilight’ being so big this year, it looks like this generation of teens is growing up and away from the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana, leaving room for the new big boy band and golden girl of Disney to emerge. The generation that grew up with Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers will now be less concerned with how many awards they win and more concerned with this year’s biggest question being answered at the Teen Choice Awards: who is hotter, Zac Efron or Robert Pattinson? (Although, if votes are too well-divided between the two of them, Chace Crawford could steal it). Taylor Kitsch and the Jonas Brothers (they’re a three-for-one deal) are the longshots here. (As a side note, I really hope Kanye West was nominated in the Red Carpet Icon category for his wacko fashion skills rather than his “I hate books” red carpet interview skills.)
Miley Cyrus will have very tough competition in the Female Hottie category with the likes of Megan Fox, Blake Lively, Beyonce, and Vanessa Hudgens. (Robert Pattinson’s costar Kristen Stewart definitely got shut out here).
It worries me that Dane Cook is one of the choices for “Choice Comedian” (do we really want a whole generation to grow up with that kind of humor?), and some parents might still be upset that Michael Phelps has a shot at “Choice Athlete: Male”. (Shawn Johnson has it all wrapped up in the female category). And when it comes to best movie and whatnot, ‘Twilight’ will sweep everything with a few minor upsets.
So if you’re a parent who wants to know who and what will be big with your kids next year besides ‘Twilight’, Robert Pattinson, and Zac Efron as the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana fade away, be sure to watch the Teen Choice Awards on August 10 on FOX to get yourself prepared for the next big thing.
