The Preakness 2009 was a race to remember. Many believed that it would a race that would be something to behold, with the favorite filly, Rachel Alexandra, and the gelding that had won the Kentucky Derby, Mine That Bird, in the race. In something that made history, the jockey who had rode Mine That Bird, to victory in the Derby, switched to ride Rachel Alexandra. It would prove to be something to behold as the jockey rode the filly to victory. It was an amazing race as Rachel Alexandra struggled to keep her lead and with the help of her jockey, she managed to win the race. Mine That Bird was second to her and would most likely have won if she had not had the jockey that is now considered the best on her back.
Rachel Alexandra was the filly who won the Kentucky Oaks just last month and was favored to win the Preakness. This filly became the first filly to win this race in eighty-five years. This filly will be the one to watch if there is a decision made to enter her in the longer race, the Belmont Stakes. She is just one of the many fillies who is famous for being able to run against the males. If she is entered into the Belmont, there will be an outcry for her to do a rematch with Mine That Bird. Her owners want to watch and see if she can make a full recovery after this last race before they make a decision. They do not want her to become like many fillies who were highly acclaimed and regarded then have some major trouble and have to be put down. Even if she does not run in the Belmont, they say that she will race again with other male horses. It all depends on her.
Their might not be a Triple Crown winner this year but if she is entered in the Belmont as is Mine That Bird, it just might be something to watch. People will do their thing and hopefully the horses will be able to do theirs. Rachel Alexandra has put her next to other female winners, such as Genuine Risk, Winning Colors, Personal Ensign, Ruffian, and Go For Wand. Her owners will do their thing and from what they have said, she will let them know how she is doing. When she does that, they will make the decision to race her or not. It is all up to her. They do not want to run her if she doesn’t want to in one of the longest races. There are those that hope she will be entered, mainly due to excellent TV ratings. She did have some problems with the dirt, did struggle to as she was bid, and the jockey was the one who made it happen. He asked her and she gave him all she had.
Whatever happens in the upcoming Belmont and whether or not she is entered, it will be a great race. Mine That Bird will be there as will some of the best horses ever. Mine That Bird will be able to let others know that he is a contender. That he is no fluke. So if she is not entered, he will go ahead and prove everywhere that he is the one to beat. If she is entered, then it will be a race to watch.
