Top 3 Country Music Association Award Winners for Music Video of the Year in Country Music History Selection Number 1: Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes, by George Jones (Won in 1986).

I love songs and videos, whether they be classic rock or classic country, which honor their roots such as this one. One of county music’s icons in George Jones stops at a filling station in his tour bus to get gas, and an old man comes out to wait on the driver, and asks who’s in the tour bus. When the driver says “George Jones”, the old man asks if he can ask him if he’d sign his guitar which has got other country music legends’ autographs on it like Willie Nelson’s and Waylon Jennings’. The old man then invites Jones into the station, which is a museum to old time country music, full of memorabilia being shown as George Jones honors many of the greats of this musical genre like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, etc., with his crisp, yet smooth singing voice. The station is dying out because an interstate has diverted traffic, and that’s symbolic of that musical genre at that time, because by the mid-1980’s, soulful country was becoming more extinct compared to the great sound it had in the 1960’s and 1970’s, a great time in country music history to think about! Here’s the awesome music video at YouTube, which is definitely a deserved Country Music Association Award Winners for Music Video of the Year!

Top 3 Country Music Association Award Winners for Music Video of the Year in Country Music History Selection Number 2: Independence Day, by Martina McBride (Won in 1994).

This is a really powerful video and a deserved Country Music Association Award Winners for Music Video of the Year because of the images of domestic abuse that is portrayed and seen through the eyes of a little girl, whose alcoholic father beats up her mother, whom the little girl loves. The mother and daughter found some solace in singing Amazing Grace at the beginning of the musical video. Even when the girl saw some clowns play-fighting during a July 4 parade, it shook her up because of the all the abuse she’s witnessed, but Independence Day would be her last day being with her dysfunctional parents, because her mother set their home on fire, which resulted in the girl becoming a ward of the county. Martina McBride’s singing evokes a sense of sadness as well as courage in facing the future. July 4 is certainly symbolic for becoming independent from being in an abusive environment or any bad relationship, whether it be a job, romantic, whatever.

Independence Day is also one of my recommendations of a song to listen to after a break up because its refrain is applicable for that, offering hope. You can read more about my ten special after break up songs at this Associated Content article.

Top 3 Country Music Association Award Winners for Music Video of the Year in Country Music History Selection Number 3: Waitin’ on a Woman, by Brad Paisley featuring Andy Griffith (Won in 2008).

I’m normally not into modern country, but when I heard the icon Andy Griffith was in this video for this song, I just had to watch it. The song really isn’t that special, but the video concept is totally awesome and a bit emotionally-charged! Brad Paisley is in a mall waiting for a woman to show up for their first date. He keeps calling her, and even sends her photos of himself as time goes by and his impatience grows. Then out of nowhere, a man dressed in overalls comes and sits by Paisley (Andy Griffith), and this man asks Paisley if he’s waitin’ on a woman, as if he didn’t already know.

More time goes by as Andy Griffith talks about the love of his life and how he’s waited on her for over 50 years (beginning with their first date in 1952), and the two men really connect as they share common ground in “waitin’ on a woman”. It’s really touching as they interact, and Brad Paisley’s singing does help it along since it’s got some vulnerability in it. The most surprising thing for me in this Country Music Association Award Winners for Music Video of the Year was the ending. I was expecting some pretty woman to finally show up for Brad Paisley, but she didn’t. He was still waiting as the last scene showed Griffith sitting alone on a white bench all dressed up in white in some nether world (like heaven?). The Brad Paisley song commented on how the men usually die first since women aren’t ready to go yet!

Seeing Andy Griffith in this video with overalls only reminded me more of my late father, who wore overalls more than anything else in his last years. My parents were married from 1954-2000, and my dad “went” first. So you can see why this video gets my attention. Andy Griffith in this video as well as Sheriff Andy Taylor further reminds me a lot of my late father because of the way he talks and the words he uses. Sheriff Taylor is one of the Top 5 TV Dads in television history, which you can read more about at this Associated Content article.
