May 30, 2009: Hundreds of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling fans hooted and hollered for a couple of hours at the Taco John’s Events Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Nashville-based Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, of which their iMPACT! weekly show airs Thursday nights on Spike TV, made their debut in Wyoming’s capital city at the Taco John’s Events Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming with six action-packed matches featuring some of their current stable of wrestling stars like Scott Steiner, Samoa Joe, Angelina Love, and Suicide. Here’s more about this Taco John’s Events Center happening in Cheyenne, Wyoming that showcased Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA Wrestling).
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling at the Taco John’s Events Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming: Reliving My Past!
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen live wrestling matches. My father used to take my brother and I to see AWA matches back in the late 1970’s, so it was quite a treat to see wrestling up close and personal again after more than 25 years of only seeing the grappling on television only. Once fans were admitted into the arena before the matches began, they could buy a program and have the TNA Wrestling referees sign them, showing how even the referees are now celebrities in this sports entertainment genre. Hard rock music blared from the loudspeakers when the matches weren’t taking place. The Total Nonstop Action Wrestling ring announcer Jeremy Borash, also known as JB, really got a rousing applause from the fans as he entered ringside for the first time, and really got the fans riled up when he offered backstage TNA Wrestling passes to those who screamed the loudest throughout the Cheyenne, Wyoming event.
The make up of the crowd was mostly people in their 20’s and 30’s, though many youngsters and some senior citizens attended the Taco John’s Events Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming this particular evening. I sat next to a real fan of TNA Wrestling, 25 year old Earl Miller, a fan of both Total Nonstop Action Wresting and the WWE, though he stated, “I like this one a lot more (referring to TNA wrestling).” I asked him what he likes best about it and Miller was emphatic as he exclaimed, “The action, how they interact with the fans, and perform in the ring!” He was attending with his wife, also a big pro wrestling fan, though Miller has been a following wrestling since he was a kid, thanks to his brother.
Miller’s favorite Total Nonstop Action Wrestling stars include Kevin Nash, Sting, Kurt Angle and the current TNA Wrestling World Tag Team Champions Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon), who starred in the main event of the evening, defeating Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley (known as The Motor City Machineguns), using their signature winning move to retain their title where Brother Ray slammed Chris Sabin on a table in the six-sided ring to net a pin fall as the fans kept yelling “We want tables!” The TNA Wrestling tag team duo stayed afterwards to pose with fans in the ring. They even gave a little boy named Christian an autographed piece of the broken table after the completion of the match.
Some of the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling stars like Scott Steiner and Consequences trash talked the Cheyenne, Wyoming crowd at the Taco John’s Events Center, insulting the locals and the city. The Women’s Knockout Champion Angelina Love admonished the crowd to use soap, saying that they smelled like “cow poop”. She then went on to retain her championship after her opponent, Awesome Kong, tried to pile drive the referee, but it backfired to where Kong suddenly got pinned by Love to the count of 1-2-3.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA Wrestling) Featured Feisty Matches at the Taco John’s Events Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming
In other TNA Wrestling matches at Cheyenne, Wyoming, fan favorite and masked wrestler Suicide won by pin fall over Consequences, who called Cheyenne, Wyoming a “garbage town.” A kid near me kept yelling out, “Suicide, I know you can do it!” This reminded me about how emotional I could get when I was his age watching the matches live. Brutus Magnus lost by pin fall to Eric Young, and despite the arrogant act that Scott Steiner put on, he was defeated by Samoa Joe. The (announced at) 7 foot tall Matt Morgan was pinned after he was slammed into a folding chair placed at one of the corners by Abyss, who looks like something out of a horror movie, to say the least!
The sounds of the wrestlers being slammed onto the ring were quite loud. I wonder if a microphone was planted under the ring or something? There may have been just a few hundred on hand at the Taco John’s Events Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, but their boisterous enthusiasm was that of thousands! The intimacy of this venue really makes for a good time, as there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Even the people in the upper levels had close viewing of the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling mayhem!
