Several years ago I learned about the Method Company, who makes a line of non-toxic, earth friendly cleaning products. It was frustrating because our local stores carried only the liquid hand soap, and I would have to stock up on other cleaning supplied when I left Alaska and could visit a Target store, (Target is the main retail outlet for Method products, and they could not be ordered online).
We finally have a Target store in Anchorage, and I have been in seventh heaven! I love Methods line of cleaners for wood, and today I want to tell you about their Wood For Good Wood Surface Wipes.
Wood For Good comes in two forms, a liquid spray and a package of individual wipes, I am reviewing the wipes. The package is designed much like a travel pack of baby wipes. The plastic container looks like wood, and there is an oval shaped lid in the center that you press to pop open, and it contains 30 wipes. Another plastic liner inside also needs to be pressed and peeled back before you can get the Wood For Good wipes out.
These wipes are white, quite thick, and measure eight inches by six and a half inches. They are not connected like some wipes, and come out one at a time. The front of the package says they are “100% natural fiber wipes”, and that they are made from bamboo and other natural fibers.
People & Earth Friendly
The back of the package says that no rubber gloves are needed when using the Wood For Good wipes, as they are non-toxic and contain naturally derived ingredients. Method states that these are made from bamboo and “other compostable and renewable natural fibers (bamboo grows extremely fast). The recyclable pouch uses 60% less plastic than the wipes that come in a canister.
Method products are never tested on animals, and this is a very important issue to me. I try to always buy from companies who adhere to this standard.
How They Clean
These are amazing cloths for cleaning wood! I just finished cleaning my oak dining room table and chairs, the wood lamps in the living room and my wooden end and coffee tables. One wipe cleaned and dusted my dining room table and I was able to clean the backs of all of my matching chair (six in total).
These are more than just a wipe to dust wood, they clean the wood! I could not believe how much dirt I got off of my dining room chairs! These are not items that I think to clean regularly, but the Method Wood For Good did a fine job of cleaning them up and making them look fresh again.
I love that there are no cleaning cloths to wash when I am done, I simply clean the items at hand, and toss the cloth into the garbage. It has a wonderful fresh almond scent, which leaves my home smelling good, and even freshens the garbage, so I get double duty out of these wipes!
Although Method says no rubber gloves are required, I do find that these Wood For Good wipes leave my hands feeling a little bit slippery, but they smell good, and the slickness wears off pretty quickly.
The wipes contain biodegradable surfactants, biodegradable solvent, non-toxic and degradable polishing agents, fragrance oil blend, under 2% preservative, and purified water. They are NOT meant to be used on wood flooring, because they could make the floors slippery and dangerous to walk on, especially for small children. They are also not to be used on furniture that has wax on it.
If you have access to industrial composting, these wipes may be composted, but as Method says appropriate facilities may not be in your area. The pouch and closure can indeed be recycled.
I find Method Wood For Good Wood Surface Wipes extremely handy when I am expecting guests and want to do a quick dusting of the furniture in the dining room and living room. I just grab the pouch, pull out one or two wipes, and in mere minutes my wood furniture is looking nice and clean, and better still, my entire house smells like almond oil!
These are wonderful wood wipes, and I gladly give them two thumbs up! This package retailed for $4.39.
