Last Nights Top 3
Last night’s (March 4, 2009), American Idol revealed 3 more contestants that will be going to the top 12. I made some predictions in a previous article http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1531159/3rd_round_of_12_for_american_idol_von.html?cat=33
and it seems that I was mostly correct in my predictions. However I was disapointed that Felicia Barton did not make it to the top 3 and also did not make it in to the wild card round.
Von Smith also did not make it in to the top 12 but did make it in to the the Wild Card Round, and will be singing tonight, and competing for one of the three remaining slots.
2 of my predicted contestants did make it in. Lil Rounds the powerhouse R&B singer, and Jorge Nunez the adorable Portirico native with the lovely voice.
I also had a feeling that fan favorite Scott Macintyre would take a spot on the top 3 because he has endeared himself to the public. He is not as strong of a singer as a couple of other people that he beat out, but a big part of being successful on American Idol is getting the public to like you. Scott Macintyre has definately done that.
The Wild Cards
Tonight’s Idol brings back 8 contestants from the past 3 weeks. These 8 contestants are called wild cards and will be competing for the 3 remaining seats on the top 12 couch. The contestants will be singing for the judges tonight and the final 3 will be chosen by the judges and not America. Obviously these 8 contestants need to sing their hearts out as this is their last chance to make it on to the show and compete for the title of American Idol. The wild card round has brought in now famous idols Clay Aiken, and Jennifer Hudson in the past.
The following contestants have been chosen by the judges to compete tonight for the last 3 remaining spots.
Von Smith – Performed in week 3. I thought he should have taken spot or at least hoped he would make it in to the wild card round. He has a powerful voice, and lots of entertainment experience. I am pulling for him to make it in.
Jasmine Murray – Jasmine Murray was someone who caught my eye during the auditions and seemed to compete solidly through the audition weeks. She was one of the ones I was looking forward to seeing, but her performance was a little lack luster. She is what the judges call a package deal, she sings really well and is very cute. I am looking forward to seeing her tonight and have high hopes for her.
Ricky Braddy – Ricky Braddy is one that suffers from lack of press. You saw very little of him in Hollywood week, so people just didn’t know him. Making things even more unfair for him he performed early on in the show which is one way to assure that you won’t be remembered. I have to say though that I was impressed by his voice, I thought he sang really well, and he is cute enough. But he may not get that fair shake because people just realy don’t know who he is.
Megan Corkery – Megan Corkery I think got in more to her physcial appeal than her voice. Not that she does not sing well, she does, but there are stronger singers who did not make it on to the wild card show. Judges called Jessica drop dead geourgous and thought she would make a dazzling recording artist and could see her in videos. The perky tatooed blond is adorable, but we shall see if that is enough to get her on to the show.
Tatiana Del Toro – I have to admit I was a little surprised by this choice. However, Tatiana has gotten more press than any other contestant this year outside of bikini girl. The press mainly made fun of her for being overly dramatic and in La La land but I guess if you are looking to get famous any press is good press. Tatiana can sing so we will see how she fares tonight.
Matt Giraud – Matt Giraud sang in the second group of 12. He gave a good performance, but suffered mainly against his competitors and not because he wasn’t good. It is nice he getting another chance.
Jesse Langseth – Jesse Langseth the petite but vibrant red head from week 2 put on a very solid performance and performed her little heart out. I thought she had a shot of making the top 3 that week, but she was just very slightly outperformed by Allison Iraheta, and one other spot was taken by fan favorite Kris Allen, who got considerably more hollywood week camera time than Jesse, the third spot was taken by very powerful broadway singer Adam Lambert.
Anoop Desai – Anoop gave a really solid performance in week one and was one of my favorites that week. But he was beat out by the jazzy blonde Alexis Grace, Fan favorite Michael Sarver, and the very strong Danny Gokey who is both an amazing singer and a fan favorite. Anoop just got sqeezed out, there were only 3 spots after all, so I am glad to see he is getting a second shot at it.
Who will get those last 3 spots? It is hard to say, I know who I am hoping does, but I like more than just 3 of them so it is a hard choice for me. I don’t envy the judges tonight, they have some tough decisions to make. Who do you think will make it through?
